If there is an accident and no way to prove your journey was ‘essential’ your claim will not be successful. You must also inform your insurance company if your car has not had an MOT due to the 6 month exemption.
Although the roads will be quieter, this isn’t an excuse to put your foot down, and speed cameras are still operational. Also bear in mind that if you are caught speeding, you are more likely to receive points and a fine. This is because most speed awareness courses have been suspended due to social distancing. Road laws regarding things like use of a mobile phones are still in place.
More awareness of pedestrians is called for too, as people try to adhere to social distancing. They are more likely to suddenly walk out onto the road without thinking to avoid each other. Those who are self isolating with symptoms of illness are deemed unsafe to drive. They could also put emergency workers at risk should thy have an accident, and is another reason that your insurance could be void.
